The following events are planned this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day.
VFW Cranberry Township ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. at North Boundary Park, 1171 North Boundary Road. The event is hosted by VFW Post 879 at the Veterans Monument in the park. Seneca Valley High School students will perform. There will also be the laying of wreaths and a color guard.The Shearer-Shick American Legion Post 454 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7132 will host commemorative services at 3 p.m. at the Veterans Park in Rimersburg. In case of rain, the service will be in the Rimersburg United Methodist Church.
Butler County 2019 Memorial Day Parade will begin at 10:40 a.m. on Main Street in Butler. After the parade, there will be a short ceremony for veterans in Diamond Park.American Legion Post 852 in Harrisville will hold a Memorial Day parade, starting with a ceremony at noon outside the post. The parade starts at the Harrisville Volunteer Fire Department at 1 p.m. and heads down Route 8 south. Participants include the Harrisville Community Band, Slippery Rock High School Marching Rockets, title winners of the 2019 Ms. Butler County Pageant and local fire trucks and military vehicles.The annual Rimersburg parade will begin at 9 a.m. at the Rimersburg Elementary School. At the cemetery, the program will include the Union High School marching band and eighth grade students Georgia Palm, Grace Kindel and Rebecca Solida. In case of rain, the program will be at the Rimersburg Community Building.
