Mobile home park could be sold to cover sewage bills

Prospect Borough obtained a writ of execution against the owner of Coral Ridge Estates mobile home park for more than $66,000 in allegedly unpaid bills for borough sewage service, setting the stage for a sheriff's sale if the bill isn't paid soon.

The Butler County sheriff's office officials said deputies posted the sale notice at the property Thursday.

The notice says the sale is being held to satisfy the judgment obtained by the borough, interest and costs.

Property owner Donald Mikesell of Lower Burrell could not be reached for comment Friday.

The sheriff's sale is scheduled for July 26.

“Prospect Borough owns and operates its own sewage collection system,” said borough solicitor Andrew Menchyk Jr. “He has not paid sewage charges, so the borough placed a lien against his property and filed a writ of execution to have it sold to satisfy the sewage charges.”

The borough alleges in the writ that the total amount due is $70,566, which includes $66,093 in delinquent sewage service bills, $336 in interest, $1,000 in legal fees, and $196 in court costs.

Because it is an ongoing case, Menchyk declined to reveal how long the sewage bills have gone unpaid.

“It goes back a while,” he said, adding that the borough hopes Mikesell pays the overdue bill in time to avoid the sale. “It would be our hope that he would step up and pay what's owed to avoid the execution sale.”

Coral Ridge's sewage bills are paid by Mikesell and not the people living in the 23.9-acre, 55-space trailer park.

“He has to pay the sewage, not individual residents,” Menchyk said.

Menchyk added that he assumes the sewage costs are included in the resident's rent payments.
