The president of the Butler School Board did not make it through Tuesday night's primary, but all other incumbents advance.

Of the seven running, just Nina Teff was not one of the top five vote-getters on either the Republican or Democrat ballots. She was beaten by nine points by Eva Robinson, a newcomer to the board, on the Democratic ticket.

Incumbents Mary Waggoner, Jennifer Cummings, Suzie Bradrick and Bill Halle all made it through the primary election. They are joined by Robinson and Jennifer Daniels-Wells.

Teff sounded strong despite apparent defeat.

“It's a democratic process,” Teff said. “It's a good thing that people have a voice.”

She noted that Tuesday's results are unofficial, and that tallying in the coming days may overcome such a slight vote deficit.

“Ultimately, I would be disappointed, but it is what it is.”

She said she'll remain an active member of the school district and a voice in board meetings.

Robinson said she was happy to advance, but disappointed in turnout.

All the candidates except for Halle cross-filed for both Republican and Democrat ballots. He was the top vote-getter on the Republican ticket with 2,913 votes, or about 16.2 percent of votes.

The top vote-getter on the Democrat ticket was Cummings with 2,123 votes, or 18.7 percent of the vote. She is the board's vice president.

Daniel-Wells said she is excited to be on the coming ballot and she plans to attend board meetings to get up to speed.

Waggoner said she will continue to be forward thinking to work for what is best for students.

Cummings said the district's current board members are a great team that is making good progress.

Halle said he was disappointed with dirty political tactics against his character.
