Zelienople man dies in Pittsburgh crash

PITTSBURGH — A Butler County man was killed and a woman injured early Tuesday morning in a one-vehicle crash on Pittsburgh's North Shore, authorities said.

Joshua E. Wine, 30, of Zelienople was pronounced dead at the scene around 1:30 a.m. on the ramp leading to the Fort Duquesne Bridge.

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. She was admitted in stable condition.

Pittsburgh police said it appeared that Wine was traveling from Reedsdale Road toward the bridge near Ridge and Allegheny avenues when he lost control of the Ford Mustang he was driving. The car ended on its roof.

Emergency crews found Wine's body in the car. The woman, a passenger, was able to get out on her own, said Chris Togneri, a spokesman for the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department.

She was outside when emergency crews arrived.

“She was shaken, but OK,” Togneri said. “She was talking, but a little bloodied.”

At first, authorities said, police did not know who was driving the car.

“This was a really bad crash,” Togneri said. “The vehicle was badly damaged and things got moved around.”

Accident reconstruction specialists are investigating the wreck that closed the on-ramp and Allegheny Avenue for several hours. Traffic was back to normal around 5 a.m.
