David Brewer

Knoch High School alumnus David Brewer recently received a lifetime achievement award from the North Country Trail Association.

Brewer, the son of Boyd and Sharon Brewer of Penn Township, is a trail work coordinator with the Wampum Chapter, which covers from the Ohio-Pennsylvania line to McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County. It is a more than 40-mile section of the trail that extends from New York to North Dakota and passes through seven states.

On May 3, Brewer was presented the award, which recognized his dedication to the organization and 17 years of service. Among his duties, he provides monthly trail reports, leads hikes and handles trail maintenance.

“He wears many hats,” according to Wampum Chapter’s president.

“He is also a mentor for our new members. He personally walks the trail, showing first-hand what needs to be done in proper trail maintenance,” according to his nomination letter from the chapter.

Brewer is an assistant manager at Walmart and obtained matching funds from the company for the Wampum Chapter.

The award joins several presented to Brewer for his volunteer work in recent years. He has received his chapter’s honoree award twice, was once the trail association’s “Trail Builder of the Year,” and won the distinguished service award.

The resident of Canfield, Ohio, is a 1982 Knoch graduate and completed studies at Clarion University in 1986.
