WINFIELD TWP — Power outages hit some of the Cabot area Friday morning as crews replaced a utility pole.

The outages were planned ahead of time and a notice was distributed to residents, according to Todd Meyers, West Penn Power spokesman. West Penn Power still received a handful of calls reporting outages, he said, but far fewer than they would normally expect.

The power work affected about 300 customers. Most were in Winfield Township, although a handful of the company’s customers in Buffalo Township and in Saxonburg also faced outages.

Power went out around 9 a.m. and returned around noon.

[naviga:h3]Hydrant flushing to begin Monday[/naviga:h3]

FREEPORT — Fire hydrant flushing in the borough will begin Monday.

Crews with the Municipal Authority of Buffalo Township will continue to work their way north into Buffalo Township. Officials said that customers might have low water pressure and temporary discoloration of their water during this time. The authority warns residents to check the color of the water before doing laundry.
