Butler Twp. selling old vehicles, equipment

Butler Township is selling seven vehicles and an asphalt recycler that are no longer in use.

For sale are a former police car, a code administration department car, a 10-ton dump truck, four small to midrange tractors and an asphalt recycler used by the street department.

Township commissioners on Monday voted to advertise the sale. Bids are due by June 17.

The vehicles have been replaced and are no longer in use.

Waste collected

More than 8,000 pounds of TVs no longer being used by residents accounted for most of 11,403 pounds of electronic and household hazardous waste collected during the first quarter of the township's enhanced recycling collection.

Electronic and household hazardous waste is collected at no extra charge through Waste Management's garbage and recycling collection contract with the township, said Tom Knights, township manager.

“It was good to know a lot of people are taking advantage,” Knights said.

Other enhanced recycling items collected included 1,570 pounds of other electronics, 366 pounds of latex paint, 314 pounds of computer monitors, 280 pounds of computers, 174 pounds of oil based paint, 168 pounds of printers and 134 pounds of used motor oil.

Smaller amounts of lamps, household batteries, computer accessories and containers of corrosive material, antifreeze, flammable gases and other materials were also collected.
