Butler police are investigating after a passer-by reported a man's body Monday morning in the parking lot of Citizen's Bank on South Main Street.

The man was later identified as Jonathan Fichter, 21, of Butler. His body was found shortly after 4 a.m. on the side of the lot near a yard at a home that appeared to be vacant.

Police Capt. Jim Hollobaugh said foul play was not immediately suspected. He noted the body had scuff marks, including on the arms.

“The injuries were consistent with someone taking a fall,” he said.

Someone walking by noticed the body and flagged down police, who tentatively identified the man from the state identification card that was in his wallet.

The body was dressed in blue jeans, a sweat shirt, tennis shoes and a ball cap. There was a cell phone located near the body.

Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Fichter dead around 6:10 a.m. and he removed the body.

An autopsy was planned between 5 and 6 p.m. Monday, Barr said.

Officers with the state police forensic services unit assisted at the scene.
