Woman accused of attack with scissors
A Butler woman is accused in a scissors attack that left a man bloodied at their apartment.
Rachel M. Roman, 39, is facing a preliminary hearing later this month on a charge of felony assault. City police arrested her Wednesday.
The victim reportedly suffered injuries to his back, neck and arm in the incident April 22 at the apartment in the 300 block of West Jefferson Street.
Police said they were called about 8:30 a.m. by the apartment's manager for a “domestic in progress.”
The manager told authorities that the defendant and victim are tenants and are “in a relationship together,” according to charging documents.
Officers got there and found the victim, shirtless and wounded. He told police Roman stabbed him with a pair of scissors.
District Judge Wayne Seibel arraigned the defendant Wednesday on a charge of aggravated assault. She was released on non-monetary bail.
Her preliminary hearing is set for May 20 at the office of District Judge William Fullerton in Butler.
On that same day, Roman is scheduled to have similar hearings in two unrelated cases, including a suspected shoplifting incident.
Butler police said employees at the Dollar General on North Main Street contacted authorities around 1:30 p.m. March 5 to ask for a welfare check on an apparently intoxicated woman at the store.
Police said they found Roman with $21.29 in unpaid store merchandise in her jacket. Officers also found a marijuana pipe in her purse, according to court documents.
She is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and retail theft.
In the other pending case, Butler County detectives charged Roman with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Detectives said the defendant was found with a crack pipe March 5 during a booking search at the Butler County Prison.
