Butler Catholic students savor Healthy Living Day activities

Students at Butler Catholic School participated in Healthy Living Day activities on April 26.

Spring rain showers couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm Butler Catholic School students had for the second annual Healthy Living Day on April 26.

The purpose and focus of Healthy Living Day was to promote and encourage students and school community members to lead healthy lifestyles including mind, body and spirit.

The day began with a morning prayer service at the school.

After the service, students were bused to Family Sports Center for the central activity of the day, the all-school Walk-A-Thon.

Originally scheduled for Highfield Park, rain showers forced walkers inside.

Students were joined by their siblings, parents and grandparents as they walked for one hour around the complex.

The numbers of steps each student and teacher took was tracked, and the grand total of steps for kindergarten through eighth-grade students as well as their teachers was 1,100,249 steps.

After the Walk-A-Thon, students and families returned to school for healthy lunches.

After lunch, elementary students participated in seminars on nutrition led by members of Butler Health System.

Butler Memorial Hospital also organized a second group of presentations focused on heart health for middle school students.

And students participated in an afternoon of STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) activities to challenge students’ minds and problem-solving skills.
