Butler boys, SR girls win track titles
The Butler boys and Slippery Rock girls track and field teams won their respective major meets Saturday.
The Golden Tornado boys repeated as champions of the Tri-State Track and Field Coaches Association Championships at West Mifflin. Oakland Catholic won the 28-team meet on the girls side while Butler took third.
Butler's boys tallied 80.5 points to edge Baldwin by half a point for the boys title at the TSTFA Championships. Tyler Kennedy returned from winning a national championship in hockey the day before to place eighth in the long jump, giving the Golden Tornado the point they needed.
Jack Codispot and Andrew Kline placed one-two in the pole vault, giving Butler 18 points in the day's final event.
Slippery Rock's girls tallied 121 points in winning the Franklin Invitational. Anna Kadlubek, Gianna Bedel, Alyssa Dalmagro, Maryann Ackerman and Emma McDermott all won individual events.

Kate Quinlan scored five goals and Karolyn Miller added four as Butler defeated Villa Maria, 20-2.
Eliza Drohan scored three goals for the Golden Tornado. Carter Judy and Evelyn Vissari added two each, Regan Worsley, Alana Collins, Tirzah Will's and Ava Selfridge one each.
Softball
Winning pitcher Ellie Lobdell drilled a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth as Warren defeated Slippery Rock, 3-0, in a pitching duel.
Lobdell struck out nine. Hard-luck losing pitcher Paige Gresgott tossed a two-hitter and struck out five for the Rockets (3-4).
