A national cybersecurity program, Girls Go CyberStart, designed specifically for high school girls, has launched to encourage more females to join the industry and reduce the digital skills gap.

Girls need to be at least 13 years old and either in grade 9, 10, 11 or 12 to qualify. The program awards winning participants with cash prizes of up to $1,000 and college scholarships of $500.

Girls Go CyberStart is the result of a partnership between 27 states and the SANS Institute.

Mapping tool tied to Butler County

Butler County Tourism & Convention Bureau launched VisitWidget, a digital mapping tool that can help visitors and residents alike plan their day in Butler County.

This interactive experience will provide a new way to explore the area which will include upcoming events, popular restaurants, top attractions, shopping and points of interest.

The interactive planning tool will be accessible via a new mobile app (Visit Butler County) or on its website www.VisitButlerCounty.com/explore-butler-county.

RENFREW — There will be an open house and fundraiser from 2 to 4 p.m. May 11 for the historic North Union Church, 460 Beacon Road.

Sponsored by the North Union Cemetery Association, the event will feature historic artifacts, living history, refreshments and a dove release.

The 1860s era, one-room church was founded by Scottish immigrants.

SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock Township Community Center, 155 Branchton Road, will host a book sale from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Families Forever seminar slated

A Families Forever seminar, offered by Lifesteps, will be from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Lifesteps, 300 Stirling Village.

Families Forever teaches parents how to minimize the negative effects on children involved in divorce and custody.
