ADAMS TWP — The gymnasium of Mars Centennial School was filled with jump ropes, drum kits and other musical instruments on Friday, as the school held its annual talent show.

Sixth-graders Ellie Koma and Isabella Yoshioka served as emcees of the 12th annual event. Fifth-grader Cora Huffman was stage manager, and high school junior Michael Crowley was music coordinator.

Seeing the showcase of students' talents is fun for students, parents and staff, said April Whorf, gifted support teacher.

“To see their peers perform and the things that they can do,” Whorf said, “I think it just shows those (who) might not have any confidence to do it, that it's something that they can do.”

Whorf said her favorite part is seeing what everyone can do, which sixth grade teacher Amy Van Iddekinge agreed was a draw for the show.

“(It's great to) see the kids do their talent, seeing them do things that we, as educators, don't see them do because they're in the classroom all day,” Van Iddekinge said.

Mars Area Elementary PTO sponsored the annual show of talent.

Performing dance routines were fifth-graders Riley Carrel, Aubree Machi, Marina Missos and Kiara Van Wyk; Corinne Sprague and Riana Palm; Maggie Fitzgerald and Rebecca Hockman; and sixth grader Arianna Bruno.

Vocal performances came from fifth-graders Charlie Coker and A.J. Horrocks; and sixth graders Faith Gibbs; Mya Lee and Gianna Mannella; Addison Nailler; Kara Sims; and Hannah Nemetz and Maggie Suppo.

Fifth-graders Carter Snyder, Lacey Kern and Aidan Krepin and sixth-graders Isabella Yoshioka and Andrew Snyder played piano.

Sixth-graders Susanna Tomkovicz and Lyra Whitcroft got together for a piano and flute duet.

Fifth-grader Lenny Splane and sixth-grader Michael Grabowski played drums; fifth-grader Caroline Martin, violin; and sixth-grader Grace Zatezalo, ukulele. Sixth-grader Caleb Halenda — along with senior Jenna Halenda and music teacher Simon Neubert — offered a violin performance.

Fifth-grader Sydney Denk gave a taekwondo demonstration.

Sixth-graders Jenna Baumgartel, Sarah Maloney and Alvin Tsao and fifth-graders Thomas Dressen, Matthew Fenio and Olivia Miller presented a jump rope demonstration.
