Mars' Tai Johnson scored 20 points to lead the East Squad to a 66-64 win over the West at the 23rd Cager Classic Saturday at Highlands High School.

Johnson was named MVP.

In the boys game, Mars' Andrew Recchia hit a 3-pointer in the closing seconds to give the East a 106-104 win over the West.

Recchia ended up with 16 points and Mars teammate Brandon Caruso added 11.

Knoch's Julian Sanks scored 19 points in a losing effort for the West.

Freeport's Jalen Brown pitched in 16 for the West.

Rocket boys win Mercer Relays

NEW WILMINGTON — The Slippery Rock boys track and field team won the Mercer County Relays Saturday at Wilmington High School.

The Rockets scored 83 points as a team, besting Riverside and Wilmington, which tied for second with 74 points.

Slippery Rock had two first-place finishes: the distance medley (Kristian Sosa, Zane Lynch, Kid Scarborough, Chad Green) and in the 3,200-meter relay (Sosa, Riley Lewis, Tim Holtz, Chad Green).

The Slippery Rock girls placed second with 87 points, just three points shy of Wilmington's winning score.

The Rockets got wins in the sprint medley relay (Michaella Roth, Emma McDermott, Anna Kadlubek, Ashley Shea), the 6,400 relay (Samantha Frazier, Leshui Chen, Marie Bickel, Harley Pflugh), girls javelin (Maryann Ackerman, Alyssa Delmargo, Rebecca Porter), discus (Dalmagro, Ackerman, Porter), shot put (Dalmagro, Ackerman, Porter), long jump (McDermott, Kira Bellis, Katie Book) and the pole vault (Gordon Baker, Cullen Birkes, Alexis Vajka).

Casey wins Valspar Championship

PALM HARBOR, Fla. — Paul Casey got the battle he expected Sunday in the Valspar Championship.

Just not from Dustin Johnson.

Casey and everyone else had full attention on a Copperhead course at Innisbrook that made the final round feel more like survival than a shootout. Casey did just that, closing with a 1-over 72 for a one-shot victory that made him the first back-to-back winner in the 19 years of the tournament.

He rallied from five shots behind last year with a 65.
