Messer denied 1,000th again

CARY, N.C. — Despite a three-hit performance by Kyle Bowser, the Slippery Rock University baseball team dropped a 10-5 decision to Dominican Wednesday at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.

The loss dropped The Rock to 5-5 and denied coach Jeff Messer his 1,000th career win for the second consecutive day.

SRU concludes its time at the National Training Complex with an 11 a.m. game Thursday against Franklin Pierce.

Mike Collins had a pair of doubles and Tyler Merigliano had two hits for The Rock in Wednesday’s loss. Joe Campagna hit his PSAC-leading eighth double of the season to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

SRU freshman Colin Cain made his first collegiate start on the mound and took the loss. He allowed four runs in 1.1 innings.
