JACKSON TWP — Seneca Valley students represented their school at the 2019 Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District Jazz Festival held earlier this month at Slippery Rock University.

The annual festival selected 28 band students from Seneca Valley to perform through an audition process.

Participants in this year's ensemble were CJ Blakely, Nicole Buchek, Allison Buchek, Emma Conrad, Adam Corrigan, Rachel Covell, Andrew Cummings, Harry Foss, Eden Geis, Kyle Gragg, Brad Hartman, Ethan Kiggins, Julian Lagoon, Katelyn Livorse, Jeremy Love, Rylie Milanovich, Matt Miller, Victor Myrna, Sreya Padamati, Kate Scanlan, Jackson Scherzer, Sean Scott, Harrison Silvester, Ryan Sims, Dean Smith, Carmyn Talento, Myles Weaver and Bryce White.

The event concluded with a public concert Feb. 2 in Swope Recital Hall.

District 5 is made up of students from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

Students are led by Robert Matchett and Varden Armstrong, secondary instrumental instructors.

In other Seneca Valley music news, 17 students from Seneca Valley were also selected to attend PMEA District Chorus from Feb. 7 to 9 at Beaver High School.

Based on audition results, 13 of these students will move on to the PMEA Region 1 Chorus Festival in March.

Those students are Ethan Bannon, Brittany Brock, Sammi Carter, Cole Eckenrode, Nick Folino, Nikki Healy, Ryan Lipscomb, Sarah McKinley, Sam O'Neill, Rachel Palaski, Jordan Ritchey, Jena Sabol and Bryce White.

Students qualified by auditioning in the fall and achieving one of the top four seats in their section of the Honor Choir to receive an automatic placement in the district choir.

District Chorus 5 also is made up of students from Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.

Vocal instructors on the secondary campus include Aaron Magill, Bobi-Jean Alexander and Claire Barker.
