Bacteria found in water at school

CABOT — St. Luke Lutheran School in Cabot is providing bottled water and hand sanitizer to students and staff until its water system is clear of a recently detected bacteria.

School officials issued a statement about the water late Wednesday night, but declined to discuss the matter.

The statement from the school read: “St. Luke Lutheran School Cabot, PA will remain open on Thursday, January 24, 2019. As previously communicated with our school families, recent water testing showed the presence of a common bacteria. The water is tested monthly per Pennsylvania state law. We were advised by state officials that the school could remain open using safety precautions. These precautions include providing bottled drinking water and using hand sanitizer. The kitchen staff is taking appropriate safety measures as well. The safety and well being of our students and staff are a top priority at St. Luke Lutheran School. Out of an abundance of caution, we will continue with these recommendations until the test results are clear.”

St. Luke Lutheran School has students from preschool to eighth grade under the direction of Principal Kelly Carney.
