Till hits 1,000 in SRU triumph

MANSFIELD — Micah Till became the 14th player in Slippery Rock University basketball history to score 1,000 points and grab 500 rebounds during SRU’s 87-76 men’s basketball victory Friday night at Mansfield.

Till tallied 20 points and 17 rebounds. He scored 1,000 points in less than two full seasons at The Rock.

SRU (12-5, 9-1) won its 10th consecutive game, tying the fourth-longest streak in program history.

John Warren II joined Till in producing a double-double. He had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Jared Armstrong scored a game-high 26 points. Nolen Gerald added 14 points and Vinny Lasley scored eight.

The host Mountaineers (1-15, 0-11) jumped out to a 28-14 lead with 5:43 left in the first half before SRU turned the game around. Tyler Moffe and Taylor Sweeney scored 20 points each for Mansfield.

Women

SRU 70, Mansfield 39 — The Rock (8-8, 6-4) led only 28-22 at the half before outscoring Mansfield 42-17 over the final two quarters.

The 39 points allowed tied for the third-lowest total against a Division II team in program history.

Ciara Patterson led The Rock with 15 points, six rebounds and a pair of steals. Madison Johnson came off the bench to score a season-high 14 points. Morgan Henderson contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson scored seven points, had four rebounds and two steals.

Mansfield (1-13, 1-10) managed only five field goals in the second half.

Both SRU teams host Pitt-Johnstown Wednesday at Morrow Field House. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m., the men at 7:30 p.m.
