Margaret Jack Mann passed peacefully into larger life on Oct. 23.

Margaret “Peggy” was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of the late Samuel Williams and the late Iva Nolf Jack.

Margaret spent 96 years serving her family, church and community. She brought joy to the lives of her family and friends, living with conviction and the purpose of giving her life to the benefit of others. Margaret lived with courage, honest service, love and sacrifice.

In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, Austin Ward Mann; her brother, Samuel Williams Jack Jr.; and her youngest sister, Virginia Jack Claxon.

Margaret spent her childhood in Avonmore during the Great Depression. Margaret graduated from St. Elizabeth Academy in Allegany, N.Y., in 1940. She graduated from Seton Hill College in Greensburg in 1944, with a degree in education.

Margaret taught in the Belle Haven School District after graduation.

Austin and Margaret were married in 1947 and raised their family at Nolf Acres in Freeport.

Many wonderful memories were formed during those years raising sheep, vegetables, red raspberries and strawberries, not to mention four children. Margaret and Austin, sweethearts and partners who cared deeply for each other, were dedicated parents for their children. They were partners at many evening bridge games with friends and family.

As the children grew, Margaret taught home economics at Freeport Junior High School. She inspired many students with her creative meal preparations and her extraordinary sewing and tailoring skills.

A former active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport, Margaret became a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Saxonburg, when she moved to her apartment at Concordia in Cabot.

Margaret was a member of Massy Harbison-Fort Hand Chapter, NSDAR, Pennsylvania State Education Association, Delta Kappa Gamma-educators association, the Freeport College Club, the Ring Club and the Investment Club of Concordia-Haven III.

She could light up any room, never forgetting lifelong friendships, always ready to play a rubber of bridge and endlessly thankful for all the attention she received from her teaching colleagues. Her friends from the Freeport College Club were such an encouragement for her, eager for her to continue with their activities and events, they were always ready to pick her up and shuttle her to meetings, making her feel special and always a part of the activities.

Margaret is survived by four children, Jack (Sammie) of Indiana, Pa., Anna (James) Lowry of Mooresville, N.C., Marta (Paul) Conkling of Norfolk, Va., and Carol Herrick (Hill) of Lewisburg, W.Va.

She is also survived by her sister, Patricia Jack Blake of Florida; and her sister-in-law, Nell Gibson Jack of Indiana, Pa.

Margaret is survived by eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.

MANN — Interment services for Margaret Jack Mann, who died Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Union Cemetery, North Washington.A memorial service will follow at 11:45 a.m. at St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Saxonburg.
