Concordia residents list reasons for thanks
JEFFERSON TWP — An early, icy blast of winter, power outages and cancellations notwithstanding, Concordia Lutheran Ministry residents listed a lot to give thanks for when asked just before Thanksgiving.
Material things rated far down residents' lists of things to be thankful for.
Family, health and faith proved to be very popular things for which to be grateful.
God's blessing proved to be a big source of thankfulness:
Martin and Dolores Ide — “This Thanksgiving (and every day) we are thankful for God's love, our family, each other, the friendship with people at Rebecca Residence and our health! God bless.”
Verlee Fischer — “For my Savior who I love and who controls my life. And I am so glad he led my husband and me here.”
Laurel Stoner — “Yesterday in church we sang a hymn that covers it all, 'For the Beauty of the Earth.' For the beauty of the Earth, for the glory of the skies. For each child whose life of worth may be missed by human eyes, God of all we raise this hymn of grateful praise.”
Uli Reppermund — “The Lord enables us to move into this luxury apartment and he blessed us with so many Godly neighbors who constantly display God's love.”
Dorothy Bailey — “I am thankful for the staff of Concordia of Monroeville.”
Cecelia Page — “I am thankful for my family and friends.”
Continued health and continued independence came in for a few hearty thanks:
Marvin Katz, 102: “I am thankful that I'm alive. I am here (Concordia of the South Hills), and that everyone is so nice.”
Dorothy Grayburn: “I have everything to be thankful for. I have a big family. My kids are married. I have grandchildren. I have many blessings. Everyone is healthy. And, I can still get around independently.”Lois Lindstrom: “I am glad I can get up every day and I still know what shoes go on what foot.”Dorothy and Laird Kroh: “Everything we experience. At this age, we are thankful we get up every morning. And I am thankful for salvation.”Some gave thanks for family:Carole Stoltz —“My granddaughter is having twins.”Lou Gaul —“A healthy family.”Don Ludwiczak — ”I just lost a brother and sister within three weeks, so I am grateful for the support of my family here at Concordia.”The recent power outages also gave cause for gratitude:Shirley Smith — “A warm, friendly and safe environment, especially with the power outage this weekend. For example, my granddaughter called me on Friday morning, 'Gram can I take a shower in your apartment?'”Betty Senulis —“I'm thankful our power didn't go out.”Harold and Janice Cunningham —“We are thankful for an organization that cares about its people. Our family members they had food and a warm place to stay this weekend as their homes were without power.”
