HARRISVILLE — The Harrisville American Legion Auxiliary 852 donated a White Table Set to the Slippery Rock and Grove City libraries in honor of POW/MIAs.

The table set for one symbolizes the lone prisoner, while the white tablecloth represents the purity of his actions in answering his country's call to duty. The single red rose in the vase signifies the blood they may have shed. This rose also is a reminder of the family and friends of missing comrades who keep the faith while awaiting their return.

Today, there are still more than 83,000 American troops listed as missing in action, according to the Department of Defense Prisoner of War-Missing Personnel Office. That includes some 73,681 from World War II; 7,947 from the Korean War; 126 during the Cold War; 1,657 from the Vietnam War; and six from Iraq and other conflicts.

The American Legion Family is dedicated to ensuring that America's POW/MIAs be honored and recognized, not just memorialized. Legion efforts focus on the need to account as fully as possible for those still missing, alive or dead.
