KC student threat deemed not credible

The Karns City School District Tuesday sent an alert to parents and guardians about a verbal threat a junior high school student made that afternoon.

The student did not have any weapons and the threat was not considered serious, Superintendent Eric Ritzert said.

Classes continued without disruption, but students who heard the threat acted properly by reporting it to school officials, he said.

“The threat was to come to school and shoot. It was deemed not credible. The student is getting the appropriate help. The state police are involved,” Ritzert said.

He said the threat was made during a lunch period and the district’s armed security personnel responded along with police.

“State police responded and will file charges if necessary and help get him the help he needs,” Ritzert said.

Classes proceeded normally Wednesday, he added.
