Slippery Rock Borough Council members voted at Tuesday's meeting in favor of changing signage in the areas of Poplar Forest Drive and Kelly Boulevard after multiple complaints from residents.

The amendment of the borough code adds new stop signs in some places, adds speed limits that were not marked before and adds signs to clarify the direction of travel.

Russell Karl, council president, said council has seen firsthand incidents that sparked the complaints.

Karl said, at the intersection of Willow Drive and Kelly Boulevard, he saw vehicles enter the intersection legally — but without stop signs — almost causing an accident.

“I've witnessed it several times,” Karl said.

Gene Allison said the new amendment also will allow the borough's police officers to better patrol the area.

“For our officers to enforce speed limits and stops, we need to have the signs there,” Allison said.

A timeline for the signs to be updated has not been set.

Allison said he hopes the signs can be placed in the next couple of months.
