Head-banging attracts police
A case of buyer's remorse?
That's what a Butler man apparently claimed after city police got a call last month for someone banging his head into a wall outside the Butler Middle School on East North Street.
Police said they found the alleged head-banger, 25-year-old Joshua J. Space, shortly after 6 p.m. Sept. 18 walking on East New Castle Street.
When asked about his behavior, according to court documents, Space told an officer that he was “mad at himself for buying heroin earlier (that day).”
He admitted that he had heroin in his pocket, police said. The officer seized 10 stamp bags of suspected heroin in one of his pockets.
Police last week charged Space with a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance. His preliminary hearing is set Dec. 10.
Authorities said the defendant, at the time of the incident, was free on $12,000 unsecured bail in connection with three unrelated criminal cases that are pending in Butler County Court.
He is charged in those cases with two counts of burglary, receiving stolen property and four counts of theft from a vehicle.
In one other pending case, Space is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
