Center court at Clearview Mall will be adorned in pink and bustling with cancer treatment and support service providers during the 10th annual Women’s Health and Wellness Fair on Oct. 13.

Some the vendors will host demonstrations of the services they offer during the fair, which runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tickets for a benefit basket raffle can be purchased at the fair and the next day, Oct. 14, when Jen’s Academy of Rhythm and Moves will put on the second annual Perform for a Cure Twirl-A-Thon competition in center court and draw raffle winners.

The competition and raffle benefits the Butler Breast Cancer and Women’s Cancer Support Group, which is sponsoring the fair. Admission is free.

“We will have 47 vendors. Some of the vendors will have demonstrations that day,” said Cheryl Schaefer, support group coordinator.

The event is held to help make people aware of cancer treatment and other health care services available at hospitals and other providers, which they might not be aware of.

“It’s amazing the things that are available here that people never heard of and never knew existed,” Schaefer said.

Most people know area hospitals offer cancer treatment services, but many might not know about services offered by other providers.

“There are a lot of things available that aren’t at the hospitals so I bring both so people know what’s available. There’s wonderful things available here in our community. You don’t have to go to Pittsburgh,” Schaefer said. “People tend to not look for something until they need it. It’s important to know what’s available before you need it.”

In addition to hospitals including Butler Memorial Hospital, VA Butler Healthcare, UPMC and Allegheny Health Network, providers offering services like Reiki massage, medical marijuana consulting and dispensing, wigs, and nipple tattoos will have tables at the fair.

Jesus Datta Retreat Center of West Sunbury will be among the vendors that will demonstrate its services.

The center offers Reiki massages, in which a practitioner places his or her hands lightly on or over a patient’s body to stimulate healing.

Compassionate Certification Centers of Butler is a group of doctors that can certify people to obtain state-issued cards needed to obtain medical marijuana and medical marijuana dispensary Cresco Yeltrah of Butler will have tables at the fair.

Creative Hair Solutions of Allison Park will display wigs, hair halos and hats for cancer patients who lost hair after undergoing chemotherapy.

True Image Tattoo of New Kensington will have representatives at the fair discussing three-dimensional nipple tattoos for women who have had breast reconstruction as a result of breast cancer.

Many of the service providers also have information about overall health care for women and men.

“We will have health information not only about cancer, but other health issues. If veterans need help getting into the VA system, they can talk to the VA representative who will be there. The VA has a great facility. A lot of women veterans don’t know what’s available to them,” Schaefer said.

She said the event is held in October in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but a lot of the providers at the fair also offer services for men, who are susceptible to breast cancer.
