3 people injured in 2-vehicle crash Monday
BRADY TWP — Three people were injured Monday morning in a two-vehicle crash on Route 8 that left two of the occupants trapped in their pickup truck, authorities said.
State police are investigating, but an accident report, including the names of both drivers and a passenger, was not immediately available.
All of the injured were taken to Grove City Medical Center with “moderate” injuries, according to Nathan Wulff, chief of the Unionville Volunteer Fire Department.
Police and emergency crews were called around 5:40 a.m. on Route 8 about one mile north of the intersection of Hall and Staff roads where a Toyota Corolla and a Chevrolet pickup truck collided.
The driver of the pickup, a man, and his passenger, a woman, both believed to be in their 40s, were trapped in the wreckage.
“We took the driver side door off and got him out,” Wulff said. “We took the passenger side door off and lifted the dash and got her out.”
The woman's feet, he noted, were pinned underneath the dashboard.
The car, driven by a woman, also in her 40s, ended off the east berm of the road.
All three occupants were conscious and talking to rescuers. Slippery Rock and West Sunbury volunteer firefighters assisted in the rescue effort.
Two Butler Ambulance Service ambulances and a Slippery Rock EMS ambulance took the injured to the hospital.
A medical helicopter was initially called but had to be canceled due to the weather conditions.
Traffic was reduced to one lane around the crash scene.
“We kept the south bound lane flowing,” Wulff said, “and northbound traffic was diverted around the accident.”
Both lanes were reopened just after 7 a.m.
