CRANBERRY TWP — National Adoption Weekend will be Oct. 13-14, and a number of local shelters are teaming up with Coldwell Banker Real Estate Services for “Homes for Dogs,” a dog-adoption initiative to be held in townships throughout the Pittsburgh area.

Other locations include events in Murrysville and South Hills. PetSmart in Cranberry will help to host an open house for adoption services from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 13 at 1717 Route 228.

Butler County Humane Society in Renfrew and Three Rivers Greyhounds will be the shelters featured for the day.

“We are lucky enough to help people in Pittsburgh, and the greater Western Pennsylvania region, find new homes every day,” said George A. Hackett, president of Coldwell Banker, in a news release. “Now, we get to extend that service to pets in need. It’s a win-win.”

The nationwide adoption weekend is part of the Homes for Dogs Project, a four-year campaign launched by Adopt-a-Pet.com, which claims to be North America’s largest nonprofit pet adoption website, and Coldwell Banker, which operates 12 offices with about 950 affiliated agents serving Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Washington and Westmoreland counties.
