Six chorus teachers walked into Butler Middle School's choir classroom Thursday.

No, that isn't a setup for a punchline: It's spirit week in Butler School District, and a handful of middle school choir singers got together to imitate their chorus teacher, Ali Erevia, for the school's twins day.

“I figured we should show our chorus pride,” Erevia said. “So I invited the whole group just in case anybody wanted to join in.”

She had five takers, all sixth-grade singers. Haley Hustak, 11, said Erevia saved her from going twin-less.

“I was going to twin with my friend, but she didn't twin with me,” Haley said. “But Ms. Erevia wanted everyone to twin with her, so I did.”

Butler Middle School hosts just two grades: fifth and sixth. Between the two, more than 1,000 students attend class at the Butler building.

About 250 of those students participate in the chorus program.

Fifth-grade Principal Josh Hundertmark said the week's festivities are going well.

“It's a great way for students to demonstrate school pride and have fun at the same time,” Hundertmark said.

Kiki Shadd, 11, said she was happy to be taking sixth grade choir, as opposed to fifth.

“This year we get to do way more than last year,” Shadd said.

One new thing, she noted, was getting to sing a song with all of the district's schools. In late March, the district will hold a chorale festival, the first of its kind held by the district, Erevia said. All choir programs from fifth grade to 12th grade will participate.

On Dec. 11, the middle school singers will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. at Butler Senior High School.
