EVANS CITY — The preliminary hearing of Erika Dawn Steighner has been postponed after the defendant was unable to make it to court Tuesday morning as she is currently being treated at a care facility.

District Judge Wayne Seibel said the hearing would be rescheduled later, when they can confirm the defendant understands the charges brought against her and that she can be released from treatment.

“She’s not capable of being here,” Seibel said. “When we reschedule, we’ll know she’s capable of understanding what she’s charged with.”

Steighner is charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor unlawful restraint, terroristic threats, simple assault, defiant trespass, harassment, two counts of recklessly endangering another person and summary reckless driving charges, all stemming from an incident on June 21, when Steighner reportedly threatened a woman and hit her with her car while a good Samaritan, a man who had been giving her directions, was trapped inside the vehicle.

She then fled the scene and later let the man out of her car, according to court documents.
