BUTLER TWP — Township commissioners Monday scheduled a public hearing on the 2019 budget for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 8.

Department heads will present budget requests to the commissioners for their consideration during the hearing, which is held every year, said Tom Knights, township manager.

He said most revenues and expenditures, labor costs and other fixed costs will be in place for the hearing.

“Most of the functional budget will be in place,” Knights said.

He said it is too soon to know if the budget will include increases in taxes or fees.

Eagle Scout project

The commissioners agreed to assist Preston McCardle, a member of Boy Scout Troop 19 in Meridian, with his Eagle Scout project to replace 50 trail signs and posts in Preston Park.

The existing seven-year-old signs are deteriorating and difficult to read.

The township will rent an auger to drill holes for the posts, which McCardle will install this fall.

McCardle will raise the estimated $405 to buy the treated posts and the township will pay for the signs, which he will install in the spring, and the hardware to attach the signs to the posts.

The project is to be completed by March 31.
