A felon was caught “wet handed” trying to flush bags of heroin down the toilet during a drug raid Thursday morning at a Butler home, authorities said.

Kyle S. Simmons, 22, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was arrested and jailed for felony drug possession.

Simmons, however, was not the target of the investigation, state police said, during which vice officers obtained a sealed search warrant they executed about 7 a.m. at the home in the 400 block of South Washington Street.

Police on Friday, citing the ongoing investigation, provided few other details about the case.

Investigators said Butler County Judge William Shaffer signed the sealed warrant Wednesday that was served about 20 hours later.

Police made their way into the house and said they found Simmons in the upstairs bathroom attempting to flush stamp bags of heroin.

His “arms were wet from his hands up to his elbows,” according to court documents, “and (he) was sitting on the toilet.”

Officers looked in the toilet and found 10 glassine bags of suspected heroin. On the floor next to the toilet was an open plastic baggie.

During the search, documents said, police seized heroin, crack cocaine, marijuana, Suboxone strips and assorted pills.

Officers also turned up digital scales, drug-packing materials, currency, smoking pipes, a syringe and metal spoon.

The investigating officer described Simmons as a “visitor” to the house. The officer said one of the targets of the investigation, who he did not identify, was also at the house during the search.

He declined further comment and would not discuss how many — or when — others could be charged in the investigation.

Fullerton on Friday arraigned Simmons on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and tampering with physical evidence.

He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $20,000 bail following arraignment. His preliminary hearing is set Sept. 24.

Court records showed Simmons has prior convictions in Westmoreland County for robbery and carrying a firearm without a license.
