Burglary charge filed after 2 drills are taken
Butler police arrested a city man after they say he broke into a home Tuesday evening and stole two drills.
Dustin W. Scott, 22, was arraigned Wednesday on a burglary charge, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
A woman called 911 about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to report a man had reached into her house in the 400 block of West Brady Street and took two drills, which belonged to her boyfriend, according to court documents.
Her boyfriend, she said, chased after the crook. Neighbors told the victims they believed it was Scott, police said.
The defendant had been doing miscellaneous work in the area, documents said, and he previously did odd jobs for the victims.
Officers with the help of a nearby resident, who saw the suspect running from West Brady Street, recovered the two drills in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of West North Street.
Police later found Scott in the 500 block of West New Castle Street after someone called about 8:15 p.m. to report seeing a man who matched the description of the burglar.
Scott initially denied taking the drills, documents said, but he later “gave a full confession.” The victims also positively identified him.
A preliminary hearing is set Sept. 17.
