MUDDY CREEK TWP — A Butler man is accused of drunken boating at Moraine State Park.

Roy C. Jones II, 34, also collided with another boat shortly before 7:30 p.m. Aug. 12 on Lake Arthur, authorities said.

Park rangers Monday charged Jones with operating a watercraft under the influence, reckless and negligent operation of a watercraft, and possessing and/or consuming alcohol at a state park.

Authorities said they responded to the lake after a caller reported an unsafe boater driving a rental boat. The same boater subsequently got into an argument with some fishermen.

The fishermen told the investigating ranger that the suspect, later identified as Jones, crossed their fishing lines before his boat hit their boat, according to court documents.

Authorities eventually spoke to Jones at the park's Crescent Bay Marina.

Rangers said he appeared to be intoxicated and they found seven empty cans and five full cans of an unspecified alcoholic beverage in the boat he was driving.

In Pennsylvania, alcohol is banned at state parks.

Jones was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology tests showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.129 percent, documents said.

A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated for boaters under state law, the same as it is for vehicle drivers.

Jones' preliminary hearing is set Oct. 10 at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock.
