Warrant issued for woman in fatal wreck
An arrest warrant has been issued for a Colorado woman charging her with homicide by vehicle in the June 29th death of a Lancaster Township man who was driving a motorcycle near Harmony.
The warrant issued Monday charges Teresa Sun Lim, 21, of Greenwood Village, Colo., in the death of David Vandoren. Investigators believe Lim struck Vandoren while driving a Toyota RAV4 south on Route 19 near Salt Works Road.
Vandoren’s left leg was severed at the knee in the crash, according to a criminal complaint filed by Lancaster Township police Officer Erik Magness. Lim was passing another southbound vehicle in a no passing zone when she allegedly struck Vandoren, who was traveling north, according to the complaint.
She told police she had left work and decided to pass a vehicle traveling about 40 mph in front of her and believed she passed it on a dotted yellow line, police said. She said the front end of her SUV was half way in the northbound lane when she saw a motorcycle coming toward her and struck the bike, police said.
Lim told police she ran to check on the bike operator, but couldn’t find him so she ran back to her vehicle to get her phone and called 911, police said.
After the crash, her vehicle was found facing south in the northbound lane with damage to the driver’s side front quarter panel above the wheel well, police said.
A state police accident reconstruction report states Lim passed the other vehicle in a posted no passing zone where the speed limit was 55 mph and she was traveling an estimated 62 to 67 mph, police said.
Vandoren was wearing a helmet. Harmony EMS applied a tourniquet to his leg and tried to revive him in an ambulance, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to homicide by vehicle, Lim has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, careless driving and limitations on driving on the left side of the road.
Evans City District Judge Wayne Seibel issued the warrant for Lim.
