Man wanted for assaulting woman
BUTLER TWP — Police are seeking a Butler man accused of pushing his former girlfriend out a moving pickup truck.
Robert H. Vanscoy, 45, is wanted on a felony arrest warrant in the weekend incident that left the victim in need of stitches and other hospital treatment for injuries including cuts, bruises and road rash.
Vanscoy is charged with aggravated assault, a felony, and terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and simple assault, all misdemeanors.
Butler Township police spoke to the 47-year-old woman at Butler Memorial Hospital, where she was taken following the altercation with the defendant about 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The woman told officers that she was at a Butler gas station earlier that night when the defendant pulled up and offered to take her to his house in the city's Island neighborhood to get her belongings, according to court documents.
He took her there, she recounted, but at some point he became angry, telling her he would take her back to her home in Summit Township.
While riding in the truck, documents said, Vanscoy told her, “I'm going to take you to Pittsburgh where no one can find you.”
The woman said he made one other ominous comment, “If I can't have you, no one can.”
She asked the defendant more than once to let her out of the truck. He eventually turned onto Vogel Road, police said, and slowed down just past the Sheetz convenience store.
“When Vanscoy slowed down,” according to a police affidavit, “(the victim) opened the door to get out of the vehicle and Vanscoy sped off as he pushed (her) out onto the road.”
The woman suffered what police described as a “significant laceration” about the left eye that required stitches and a “significant bruise” near her left elbow and forearm.
Additional injuries included a puncture wound on her left forearm that needed stitches, and road rash on the left side of her face and eye, “up and down the left side of her body and scrapes on both of her knees,” according to court documents.
She complained of severe pain in her left shoulder.
