Classes in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District have been canceled yet again amid water quality concerns, about a week after water problems delayed the district’s opening day.

On its website Tuesday afternoon, the district announced that classes for Wednesday had been canceled “due to ongoing concerns with water quality.”

At least one water line leak and a pump failure discovered Aug. 29 in the Foxburg Water and Sewer Authority system left the district without water. The issue was discovered that morning, meaning students on their way to the opening day of classes had to be brought to school and then dismissed later that morning.

Since the water issues were discovered, the district has had to repeatedly cancel: classes were canceled Thursday, Friday and Tuesday, giving students a five-day break for Labor Day.

District officials had said over the weekend that classes were expected to resume Tuesday, with bottled water provided to students and employees. However, classes were ultimately canceled.

The boil water advisory issued by the authority Thursday remained in effect Tuesday, and Superintendent David McDeavitt said classes had been canceled “due to uncertainty with the water pressure, in addition to the boil water advisory.”

McDeavitt said Tuesday he was “hopefully optimistic” that classes at the district would resume Wednesday. He was not available for comment Tuesday afternoon regarding the decision to cancel classes Wednesday.
