School Districts Update

Elementary enrollment: 378

High School enrollment: 322

Facility upgrades/changes: An energy savings project, projected to save the district more than $1.5 million in the next 20 years, upgraded lighting and building envelope upgrades. Work at the high school included the electrical system and HVAC upgrades, roof recoating, ceiling tile replacements and science room renovations. At the elementary, HVAC upgrades and window replacements were made. A security vestibules is located in the main entrance of both schools. Superintendent David McDeavitt has applied for a grant to purchase metal detectors and an ID scanner that will perform background checks on guests.

Program changes: A positive behavior intervention support grant which implements a reward system for good behaviors is under way this year at the high school. At the elementary school, students created posters promoting positive behavior and painted rocks for a rock garden at the flagpole seating area.

Kindergarten enrollment: 132

Senior class enrollment: 166

Alexa Gromacki, life skills aide at Moraine

Facility upgrades/changes: New roof and new flooring in cafeteria and hallways at Slippery Rock Elementary School; resurfacing of middle school lot.

Program changes: New textbooks for high school social studies, middle school science, and world languages; new Google Chromebooks to replace old ones that are now outdated; new computer lab at Slippery Rock Elementary School; new life skills support (special education) classroom at Moraine Elementary School.
