Donald R. Cunningham

Donald R. Cunningham, 92, of Slippery Rock passed away July 1.

Don was born June 18, 1926, in Uniontown. He was the son of the late Lawrence Ray Cunningham and the late Nancy Rist Cunningham.

Don served in the U.S. Navy, enlisting three times, the first time during World War II in the U.D.T. He reenlisted as a fireman after the war.

Later, he drove bus for Greyhound Bus Lines for 40 years, amassing 4 million miles with no accidents. Greyhound awarded him a bus with his name on it as a result.

Don is survived by three sons, Virgil and Arleen Cunningham of Georgia, Terry and Deborah Cunningham of Industry, Pa. and Donald and Debra Cunningham of Boyers; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Betty Klink of Ohio and Emma Angelo of Uniontown, and one brother, John Cunningham of Florida, also survive.

Don was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, and his brother, Virgil, who died in the Bataan Death March during the war.

Don loved to golf, shoot pool, go RVing and spend time with his friends at the Legion, where he was affectionately known as “Cupcake” to all who knew him. He will be sorely missed, because he was a Gentleman's Gentleman and truly one of a kind.
