CRANBERRY TWP — Residents were struck Saturday night by a string of late-night burglaries in which thieves took valuables from unlocked cars.

About 10 residents reported having cars broken into, according to Sgt. Chuck Mascellino of the township police.

“A lot of people left their cars unlocked overnight,” he said.

One of the victims, Don Shearer of Hermitage Place, reported losing around $1,100 he was saving for vacation that he had left in his car.

“He got a lot of money,” Shearer said.

A few of Shearer’s neighbors had their cars broken into as well, he said.

Mascellino said police received numerous reports of overnight thefts Saturday night across the township.

He encouraged residents to refrain from leaving valuables in their cars at night and to make sure they lock their cars.

Police had no suspects as of Monday.
