Rubble is all that remains of a house at 121 Morton Ave. after a fire destroyed it early Saturday morning. The house had been vacant since being gutted by a fire Jan. 11. The city had a contractor knock down the few remaining walls Saturday morning.

An overnight fire early Saturday at 121 Morton Ave. in Butler city finished off a home that had previously burned on Jan. 11.

On scene Saturday morning, the owner, Joe Music, said no one was inside the building when it burned sometime shortly after midnight. Music said the building had no electric or utility hook-ups, and that the inside had previously been gutted by the January fire.

The building is now destroyed.

City firefighters said the home was already enveloped in flames when they arrived. Firefighters cleared the scene at about 3:30 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The fire damaged a neighboring home to the west and appeared to warp siding on the home across the street.

Firefighters put out the flames using water only, not suppressive foam.Most of the house, including two full exterior walls and the roof, caved in during the fire. The city had a contractor knock down the few remaining walls Saturday morning. Wreckage is scheduled to be picked up early this week.Music, who said he has lived in a neighboring building since the January fire, said he believes someone burned his old home down.“How else could this happen?” he said, overlooking the rubble.He did not share who, if anyone, he suspected.“I don't know if somebody fire-bombed it or what,” Music said.
