SR Township gun dealer accused of fed violations

A Slippery Rock Township firearms dealer has been charged with violating federal gun laws.

Federal prosecutors said Wednesday that William P. Midberry, also known as William P. Schmidt, 37, has been indicted on charges of making false entries on federal firearms purchase forms and selling firearms without performing background checks.

Midberry operates Slippery Rock Outfitters, a firearms dealer on Cemetery Road in the township.

Prosecutors say the offenses occurred on Sept. 8, 2017 and April 15. The indictment was handed down after an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

According to the Department of Justice, Midberry faces a maximum sentence of two years in prison, a fine of $200,000, or both.
