ADAMS TWP — A motorcyclist was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital with injuries Saturday night after crashing on Mars Valencia Road, authorities said.

The man, believed to be in his late-20s or early-30s from the Richland Township area in Allegheny County, was thrown off his cycle in the crash about 7:50 p.m.

Adams Township police are investigating but an accident report was not immediately available.

The man was riding with a friend when he apparently lost control of the cycle after traveling onto gravel while rounding a bend on the road, said Lt. Doug Mellinger of the Adams Area Fire District.

He was thrown off the motorcycle and landed in the yard of a home. The cycle continued down the road a short distance before ending near the edge of a driveway

His friend, who was driving a motorcycle behind the man, stopped to help while a neighbor reported the wreck to 911.

Mellinger said the man, who was wearing a helmet, was “in and out of consciousness.” Emergency officials described his injuries as moderate to serious.

A Quality Ambulance crew tended to him before he was taken to the nearby Mars Veterans of Foreign Wars post, where a medical helicopter landed in the ballfield and flew him to UPMC Presbyterian.

The crash closed the entire road for between 20 and 25 minutes. One lane was later reopened. All traffic was restored by 8:45 p.m.
