PITTSBURGH — The International Board of Lactation Consultants has chosen the Allegheny Health Network’s Women and Infant Center at West Penn Hospital as its Care Award recipient.

The award recognizes a high level of support to breastfeeding families. West Penn was the only hospital in southwestern Pennsylvania to receive the award, and one of only 12 in the state.

The award is granted to facilities that provide training to staff members, have implemented special projects that promote breastfeeding, and support a lactation consultant.

Care Award recipients must also have started or completed within the past two years a project that protects, promotes and supports breastfeeding, and documented training updates for breastfeeding support staff.
