Adams Community Day scheduled June 9
ADAMS TWP — The annual Adams Township Community Day will be June 9 at the township Community Park on Valencia Road.
According to Haley Geyer, park director, the township changed the date of the event from September to June in an effort to include more members of the community.
“We want this to kick off the summer,” she said.
The event has something for everyone, Geyer said, beginning at 8 a.m. with registration for the Fueled by Fire 5K Race and Walk. The race steps off at 9 a.m. in the park, out Three Degree Road, onto Davidson Road, onto Meredith Drive before reversing course at Mars Centennial School.
Proceeds from the race will benefit the Adams Area Fire District and the Callery Volunteer Fire Company, Geyer said.
Community Days kicks off at 1 p.m., with entertainment and food options, as well as activities. Entertainment will be provided throughout the day by School of Rock Wexford, North of Mason Dixon, Mars Stars Jump Rope and Velveeta, followed by the Little Big Shots Fireworks Show at 9:30 p.m.
Various food trucks will be on hand throughout the day including Evil Swine BBQ, The Funnel Cake Men, Hott Dawgs, BRGR, Las Chicas, PGH Halal, Sugar & Spice Ice Cream and Kona Ice.
Other activities throughout the day include bounce houses, inflatable slides, a Velcro wall, face painting, bubble soccer, a petting zoo, pony rides, a magic show, a rock climbing wall, corn bag toss and horseshoes.
“Our main focus ... is to open up our park and have our community come out and enjoy the day,” Geyer said.
