Church musicians play for gathering
Members of the congregation of Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, will be providing the music at the Christian and Missionary Alliance gathering this weekend in Lancaster Bible College.
Senior Pastor the Rev. Denny Krajacic, worship pastor Dave Prentice and an eight-member band, 25 vocalists and a couple of music technicians will be providing music at the SEEK 2018 Missions Conference Friday and Saturday.
Prentice said, “Our national office leaders will be speaking, missionaries will be speaking on the missionary field and we will be enjoying the extended family in worship and prayer, seeking God's face and asking for more of the Holy Spirit in our lives and our ministries.”
“The band and the tech team will be leaving Thursday and the vocalists drive out Friday,” Prentice said.
“This is just a small portion of our community worship team,” he said. “We have about 100 active volunteers, band techs and vocal teams.”
The Butler Community Alliance contingent has been charged with providing music before, during and after the SEEK 2018 sessions.
There will be one session Friday night, three sessions on Saturday. But the band members and singers won't get to rest.
Prentice said the Butler contingent will pack into their van caravan soon after the last session ends to make the 4½-hour drive back to Butler.
After all, they are expected at the church by 7:30 a.m. Sunday to prepare for the day's music.
This weekend will mark the second time Community Alliance members have provided the music at a SEEK conference.
The church was asked to provide the music for a SEEK 2016 conference at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg.
Prentice said, “We were just asked. I met the president of the denomination, Dr. John Stumbo, three years ago when he attended the 110th anniversary of Community Alliance. Our paths just happened to cross.”
Stumbo said the SEEK conferences further the mission of the denomination.
“We as a family must continue to discover what it is to have the Holy Spirit work in our lives, developing the character of Jesus, through his power sending us in an impactful way with the message of Jesus through our world,” Stumbo said.
Prentice said the meeting took place during his arrival at the church in September 2015.
He said one of his goals was to lead his team of volunteers to record and produce a worship CD.
His goal was reached with the production of “Not Unto Us,” a 12-song CD of church music recorded by the community worship team at the church.
“We wanted to bless people by taking this music outside the walls of our church,” said Prentice. “We wanted the project to lead people into a closer relationship with God.”
And, the church wanted to fund the efforts of CAMA ministries, a disaster relief branch of the Christian and Missionary Alliance, with CD proceeds.
