[naviga:h3]Concordia hosts big band music[/naviga:h3]

JEFFERSON TWP — Concordia Haven Apartments will host the Mary Gibbons Band at 6 p.m. Sunday on the Haven II Patio, 148 Marwood Road. The public is invited to the free event.

The band was formed by Mary Gibbons, former director of the Elderton High School Band and her husband, Kevin, former director of the Kittanning Fireman’s Band.

The band specializes in swing music from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s and will perform favorites of the big band era. Reservations are preferred, but not required. Contact Lynn Turner at 724-352-1571, ext. 8518.

PORTERSVILLE — A Touch of Class Fashion Show will run from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at Betsy’s Barn, 147 Kennedy Road.

Sponsored by the Zelienople Eastern Star, the show includes lunch, door prizes, silent auction and bake sale.

Proceeds will benefit the Zelienople Eastern Star and the local food bank.

Two educational programs will be discussed by Concordia at Cabot professionals at the Butler Public Library, 218 N. McKean St.’ in June.

Cathy Questiaux, life transitions counselor for Concordia Haven Apartments, will present “Straight Talk: About the Lifestyle at a Retirement Community” at 6:30 p.m. June 7.

Roni Lucas, director of customer experience for Concordia’s Good Samaritan Hospice, will talk about “Understand the Difference between Hospice and [naviga:h3]Palliative Care” at 6:30 p.m. June 21. [/naviga:h3]

[naviga:h3]Pushing the Limits series starts June 2[/naviga:h3]

ZELIENOPLE — The Zelienople Public Library, 227 S. High St., will host a four-part reading, viewing and discussion series for adults called “Pushing the Limits,” from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturdays, beginning Saturday.

The library is one of 100 rural public libraries nationwide that received a grant from the National Science Foundation to host the series.

“Pushing the Limits” brings together popular books and feature film videos that will stimulate discussions about the impact of science and technology on the communities.

Participants are encouraged to register early and pick up the book from the library so it can be read before the first session. The first five people who register at the library to participate will receive a free copy of each book.
