Hot riding mower cited as source of shed fire

FORWARD TWP — A hot lawn mower is being blamed for a Sunday night fire that burned down a storage shed in the 300 block of Spithaler School Road, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the fire that started around 7:30 p.m.

The homeowner had just used the riding mower and placed it in the 10-foot-by-10-foot shed, said Steve Bicehouse, chief of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department.

The shed was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews got there, he said. The shed, which was in the back yard, never threatened the house.

Assisting the Evans City VFD were firefighters from Callery, Connoquenessing, Penn Township and Butler Township Fire District 3.
