JACKSON TWP — State police have obtained a felony arrest warrant for a Virginia man who they say walked out of a Pittsburgh hospital where he was being treated after a crash.

Police say he was suspected of driving under the influence and allegedly in possession of a stolen vehicle at the time of the wreck.

Roy Harris, 61, Woodbridge, Va., is charged with driving under the influence, receiving stolen property, driving without a license and careless driving after he crashed a 2007 Jeep Compass around 7 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 79.

Harris later left Allegheny General Hospital where he was taken for treatment.

Officers interviewed witnesses who reported seeing the Jeep veer off the road, then overcorrect into a guard rail and finally drive into some trees, police reports said. Officers who responded to the crash reported smelling alcohol on Harris.

Additionally, officers found Harris’ license was suspended related to driving under the influence.

The owner of the Jeep, David Walters, told police that the vehicle had been stolen from a garage in New Castle and that he did not give anyone permission to take the vehicle, documents said.

At the hospital, documents say Harris “absconded due to being suspect DUI and in possession of a stolen vehicle.”
