One driver hurt in city crash

One of two cars in a rear-end crash on East Jefferson Street in Butler Wednesday morning. One of the drivers suffered a minor injury.

One person was hurt in a rear-end crash Wednesday morning on East Jefferson Street in Butler, authorities said.

Both cars were traveling east near Third Street about 8:40 a.m. when a Kia Optima struck the back of a Chevrolet Impala, according to Butler police.

A police report was not immediately available and the names of the drivers and passengers were not known.

The driver of the Kia, a woman, suffered a minor injury. A Butler Ambulance Service crew tended to her before she was taken to nearby Butler Memorial Hospital.

The woman's two passengers, one a child, were not injured.

The other driver, Ryan Bair, 24, of Butler, was not hurt. He said he was headed home from work. He was about 100 yards from his house, which was visible from the crash scene.

The investigation is not completed but police said they believe the woman was distracted, possibly from the sun in her eyes.

A wrecker towed both vehicles from the scene.

Bair said he only bought his car two months ago.

“It was my grandma's car,” he said. “I got it for a steal.”
