Video surveillance is credited with helping investigators solve last week's break-in at a Butler apartment.

The alleged crook, according to court documents, was a neighbor of the victim. He's also a felon.

Butler police Thursday arrested 37-year-old Adam A. Selfridge on felony charges of burglary and trespass, and misdemeanor charges of theft and receiving stolen property.

He was being held in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.

Police learned of the break-in about 10:30 p.m. May 12, after the victim discovered three missing items — a 39-inch television, a computer tablet and an electronic cigarette — valued at $550.

It appeared, police said, that the burglar got inside after breaking the front door lock and an interior closet door.

Investigators eventually reviewed security footage, documents said, that showed Selfridge walking around the corner of the apartment about the time of the suspected crime.

About one minute later he reappeared in view of the surveillance, police said, “carrying a television.”

Selfridge faces a preliminary hearing June 4.

Court records showed he has felony convictions for attempted robbery and forgery in Butler County.
